Dylan Strome was on everybody’s radar as a desired pick at number four if he was available. He wasn’t, but that didn’t stop Mark Hunter and his staff from drafting a pretty darn good player from Erie in Travis Dermott.
Being the second best Erie Otter from Newmarket may not be the greatest ranking most years, but when #1 is Connor McDavid, you’ll take it. It’s a long-held belief in hockey that you have to be a special player in order to play with superstars. That bodes well for Dermott as he has been a teammate of (and on the same power play with) Connor McDavid since they were members of the York Simco Express team that terrorized the province of Ontario at the peewee level.
