JJ Piccinich is an oddity on this list. He was drafted as an NCAA commit and played 25 games for Boston University, but he then left to join the London Knights. Since he was drafted as an NCAA player, the rules for him don’t change. The Maple Leafs have until next summer to sign him to an NHL deal before he becomes an NHL free agent. He’s signed to an AHL contract right now, since he can’t go back to London next season, but the clock is still ticking.
Last year there was a flurry of activity bringing players onto the Marlies.
