The Toronto Maple Leafs signed 28 year-old former first round pick (28th 2008) Tyler Ennis to a league minimum contract. Ennis is a speedy, defensively sound winger whose career has been somewhat derailed by injuries. He scored eight goals last season with the Wild after missing over half the games in his final two seasons in Buffalo.
On the surface, it’s not a very exciting move. Sure, there’s a chance that everything breaks his way and Ennis once again discovers his 20 goals form, but that isn’t what the Leafs are banking on here. The Leafs are building depth for minimal risk, and at the very least Ennis provides depth and insurance against injury.
