As the signing rights to Dakota Joshua ticked down to their August 15th expiry date, the Maple Leafs made an effort to squeeze every last morsel of value from their 23-year-old prospect and dealt him to the St. Louis Blues last night for future considerations.
The Blues then promptly signed Joshua to a two-year, Entry-Level Contract.
For the Leafs to decide to move on from Joshua does not come as much of a surprise. Joshua is a product of Leafs regimes past, drafted 128th overall by Toronto back in 2014 at a time when Dave Nonis still called the organizational shots.
