He scored 19 points and was a much, much better player than I gave him credit for being. At even-Strength, he scored 19 points, only four less than team leader Jake Gardiner. To be honest, he was one of the Toronto Maple Leafs best players last year.
I criticized Babcock for using him so much, I wrote that he wasn’t very good and I was wrong about that. For last season at least, Matt Hunwick was excellent in his role on the Leafs third pairing.
Hunwick was fifth on the Leafs D in ice time (5v5) and if your #5 can play half-way decent defense while putting up close to 20 points, that ain’t half-bad.
