In mid September of last year, the Panthers traded the right handed defenseman to the Arizona Coyotes for left-winger, Jamie McGinn and the Toronto Maple Leafs missed out.
The Panthers were interested in adding another depth winger and Dale Tallon, the general manager, felt that Demers was expendable. While Demers was expendable, Tallon could have easily acquired more in return for the Dorval, Quebec native.
The Toronto Maple Leafs should have been the team to pry Demers from Tallon’s hands. The Maple Leafs could have sent a player of equal or higher value to the Panthers for the defenseman.
