Toronto Maple Leafs Pull the Plug on Michael Hutchinson

Michael Hutchinson’s days as the backup goaltender of the Toronto Maple Leafs have reached their end. At least for now.

GM Kyle Dubas has elected to pull the plug on Hutchinson just over a month into the season, placing him on waivers. Understandably so.

The 29-year-old Barrie native appeared in six games with the Maple Leafs. He posted a woeful .879 save percentage and did not win a single of his appearances.

The Leafs didn’t exactly put Hutchinson in a good position to succeed, but even considering that, Hutchinson failed to live up to the bare minimum level of success required to hold onto the position of backing up Frederik Andersen.
