While it’s true that the Toronto Maple Leafs are in the market for a right-shot defender, I can think of much better ways to spend $3.625M for the next two seasons – and it’s not on a mediocre number four defender.
All of Fayne’s underlying numbers are negative relative to the team except for his positive 0.57 CF%. He did get handed tougher zone starts than any other Oilers defender, though, but he’s offensively challenged so I doubt that his lack of puck moving skills would bump up those numbers even if he was slightly sheltered on the second pairing.
