According to Sportsnet’s Mike Johnston, contract talks between the Toronto Maple Leafs and recent all-star captain Auston Matthews are intensifying. While white smoke has yet to rise from the chimney, it’s somewhat soothing news for those still recovering from the William Nylander saga.
While recent updates still leave much to the imagination, there is, however, some alleged talk of a five or six-year deal, making it evident that Kyle Dubas will try everything to prevent what can now only be called a “Nylander standoff”.
This act-now strategy is the right course of action. The rumoured contract in the making, however, is not.
