The Toronto Maple Leafs have a need at the back-up goaltender position but little room to make it work right now. That’s in part thanks to Jared Cowen.
Cowen is contesting the attempted buyout of his contract which would cost him millions of dollars – something he’ll struggle to earn for the rest of his career.
It’s understandable that a player wouldn’t want to lose millions of dollars, especially when they recognize they aren’t worth it, but hockey is still a business – and on the business side of things, the situation is a problem.
The situation is also holding up potential entry level signings along with the mentioned back-up goaltender.
