Toronto Maple Leafs Hire Lou Lamoriello As GM

Lou Lamoriello will be the 16th general manager in Toronto Maple Leafs history – a shocking twist in the GM search for Brendan Shanahan.

This is, well, surprising?

For all the suggested candidates and all the rumors surrounding the general manager position of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Lou Lamoriello’s name never came up. Why would it?

What this hiring means, in my opinion, is that Shanahan has just hired his “bridge GM” to allow Mark Hunter and Kyle Dubas to gain more experience in front office roles before one of them takes over.

Lamoriello’s New Jersey Devils were a playoff team in 21 of the 27 NHL seasons he was with the team, including three Stanley Cups – so he comes with a decorated resume.
