In midst of yesterday’s Raptors mania, a report from The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun posited that the Maple Leafs have been shopping maligned backup goaltender Garret Sparks in the hopes to secure more stability in net. And thus, an era is likely over.
Hearing from a few sources that the Maple Leafs have quietly been shopping Garret Sparks. The backup goalie, 25, has one year left on his deal paying him $750k.
Sparks had a truly rough first full season in the NHL. Following a disappointing training camp, the 25-year-old was effectively handed the Maple Leafs’ backup role based on merit, which sent Curtis McElhinney and Calvin Pickard packing as a result.
