When the Toronto Maple Leafs acquired Michael Grabner they didn’t just clear room to potentially sign PTO invites, they gave themselves options to take make a trade that isn’t just a one-for-one type deal.
With where they stood at the contract limit, making a trade that netted them a young player while, perhaps, taking back an additional player solely for cap balance purposes was out of the question.
Now that they’ve shoveled five players to the New York Islanders they have plenty of room to entertain other options.
Tyler Bozak, Dion Phaneuf and Joffrey Lupul are all prime candidates that the team would likely be interested in moving if possible.
