Since firing their coach – Mike Babcock – in late November, the Toronto Maple Leafs have lost just four times in regulation.
Along with the Blues and Penguins, the Leafs are the best team in the NHL since they hired Sheldon Keefe.
They are 12-4-1 under the new coach, including a recent six game winning streak and current seven game points streak.
They will finish off 2019 with a game against the Wild tomorrow.
Toronto Maple Leafs + NHL Standings
The Leafs lost six in a row just before Babcock was fired, and along with an unusually hard schedule (that featured an insane amount of back-to-back games), a ridiculous run of injuries, and a bad October by Freddie Andersen and an 0-6 record from their back-up goalies, they were a long shot to make the playoffs, even with 55 odd games remaining.
