Timothy Liljegren selected 17th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs

Originally considered a surefire top three pick early in the season, the Swede owns a potential top-pair defenceman’s skill set. His season was beset by mono and he was also traded in Sweden part way through the year in search of more ice time. He’s been labelled a one-way defenceman by critics with some question marks about his hockey sense, but he has good defensive instincts that can be honed.

A fantastic skater over all ranges, he’s an adept problem solver in his own end. Thanks to his elusiveness and stickhandling ability, he’s able to beat players one-on-one.
