Goaltender Garret Sparks allowed five goals on 31 shots as the Leafs fell to the Montreal Canadiens 5-1 at Scotiabank Arena on Monday. It was Toronto’s first loss in four preseason games.
Both teams sat their veteran players, inserting lineups comprised almost exclusively of AHL-bound players.
Kasperi Kapanen was the lone Toronto player to score.
For the Habs, Arrturi Lehkonen and Xavier Ouellet each scored twice. Charles Hudon also scored for Montreal.
Sparks had a subpar performance, particularly on the Canadiens’ fifth goal. The netminder turned the puck over to Matthew Peca before falling on his back as he scrambled to get back into position to no avail, surrendering Lehkonen’s second goal of the night.
