Drafted by the St. Louis Blues 180th overall in 2004, Polak played parts of eight seasons with the Blues and the Peoria Rivermen, and has been a firm fixture in the NHL since 2008. At the end of one of his strongest years as a player, 2011, he signed a five-year contract with the Blues for 2.75 million over 5 years. In 2014, Polak was traded to the Leafs for Carl Gunnarsson and a 2014 fourth-round draft pick.
