William Nylander scored six seconds into overtime on a penalty shot to lift the Leafs to a 3-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center on Wednesday.
Nylander was awarded the penalty shot after being hooked by Chicago defenceman Duncan Keith. The Leafs player beat goaltender Jeff Glass high on the blocker side for the game-winner.
The victory was a measure of redemption for the Leafs, who surrendered the tying goal by Nick Schmaltz amidst heated controversy. Coach Mike Babcock challenged the play for interference, and video review clearly showed Artem Anisimov lying on top of Frederik Andersen, preventing the goalie from making the save.
