For the longest time, the mantra that all (read: most) hockey fans have taken to heart is the idea that you NEVER draft a goalie in the first round. They’re too volatile, too voodoo, and there are too many tales of regret to make it worth the risk that you find an exception to the rule.
But during these playoffs, I’ve seen more than a few people point out that most of the playoff teams, and especially the teams who have gone deepest so far, all have goalies who were former first round picks. So, the counter claim goes, you absolutely should draft goalies in the first round!
