It’s not Jake Gardiner, it’s not Stuart Percy or Travis Dermott. It’s Morgan Rielly.
The 21 year old defender is entering his third season as an NHL player and avoided the sophomore slump in his second year. In fact, he improved in his second season with Toronto despite it being one of the most forgettable seasons in recent Leafs memory overall.
Rielly played with an increased role, scored more even strength points and upped his possession numbers in 2014-2015 compared to his rookie season.
In a position (and city) where there is nowhere to run and hide, that’s impressive.
