Marlies eliminated on controversial 2OT goal

The Toronto Marlies were eliminated from the Calder Cup playoffs on Sunday night after Morgan Geekie scored at 1:52 of the second overtime period to give the Charlotte Checkers a 4-3 victory. The Checkers claimed the Eastern Conference Final in six games.

Toronto fell down 2-0 in the second period before reeling off three consecutive goals. Dmytro Timashov got the Marlies on the scoreboard with a creative penalty shot goal, faking a shot and instead letting the puck glide between the pads of goalie Alex Nedelijkovic:

Defencemen Andreas Borgman and Calle Rosen tallied to give the Marlies a one-goal lead before the Checkers evened the score.
