Rinat Valiev is the youngest of the Marlies' defensemen at age 21 ("He's younger than Stuart Percy, Viktor Loov, TJ Brennan, Justin Holl, Andrew Campbell, and David Kolomatis," Fulemin reminds us), and arguably the best defensive prospect on the Marlies. He went undrafted in 2013, only to be drafted as an over-ager in 2014, an early sign that the Leafs' front office was aware of this market inefficiency.
Valiev played all but two games in the season after his draft with the Kootenay Ice of the WHL.
