The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed 31-year-old goalie Aaron Dell to a one-year contract worth $800,000.
Dell was never drafted. He played under now-Leafs Assistant Coach Dave Hakstol at the University of North Dakota from 2010-2012 and then signed with the San Jose Sharks and has been in their organisation since then.
Dell joins the Leafs obviously sitting behind Frederik Andersen and Jack Campbell on the depth chart, but in front of untested prospects Joseph Woll and Ian Scott. Where he could wind up to start the season is still unclear.
