Leafs trade Sparks to Vegas for Clarkson, 4th round pick

The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired a fourth-round selection in the 2020 NHL Draft and forward David Clarkson from Vegas in exchange for goaltender Garret Sparks.

Clarkson, 35, last played an NHL game in March 2016 after suffering a career-ending injury.

Sparks posted a record of 8-9-1 in 20 appearances for the Leafs last season, with a GAA of 3.15 and save percentage of .902, including one shutout.

The move allows Toronto to maximize the amount of cap relief by activating the long-term injury reserve contracts of both Clarkson and Nathan Horton, in the event that Mitch Marner signs with the club before the season starts.
