The Maple Leafs erased a 2-1 third period deficit to prevail 3-2 in a shootout over the New Jersey Devils on Thursday. The victory was special for coach Mike Babcock, who was behind the bench for his 1,000th career game.
Babcock has compiled a record of 546-307-19-128 with Anaheim, Detroit and Toronto over that stretch.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m proud, but you just want to win the game,” Babcock said of the milestone. Dion Phaneuf played in his 800th career game, while it was the 700th game for Joffrey Lupul, and 300th outing for Nazem Kadri.
