Mike Babcock’s unofficial debut behind the Leafs bench won’t be registered in the official NHL record book. Nevertheless, the Stanley Cup and Olympic gold medal-winning coach was content with his team’s 4-1 split squad victory over the Ottawa Senators at Air Canada Centre to open the pre-season.
“I thought our guys executed not bad in their own zone, had speed on the rush, and got on their (defence) a little bit. Lots of good things,” Babcock said.
P.A. Parenteau, signed by the Leafs as a free agent in the off season, led the way with a pair of goals.
