Winnipeg’s Patrick Laine scored three times – including the overtime winner – to lead the Jets to a 5-4 comeback win over the visiting Maple Leafs on Wednesday night.
Laine’s winning goal came just seconds after Toronto’s Auston Matthews was stopped on a breakaway in the 3-on-3 extra session. In what was billed as a duel between the top two picks at the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, Matthews finished with one assist compared to Laine’s three tallies.
Two goals by Nazem Kadri plus one each from Connor Carrick and William Nylander staked Toronto to a 4-0 lead prior to Winnipeg’s rally.
