The Toronto Marlies were the class of the American Hockey League in 2015-16. With a record of 54-16-5-1, the team cruised to the top of the regular season standings, earning the Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy as league champions.
However, as proud as coach Sheldon Keefe is of the accomplishment, he remains steadfast in his resolve that only a Calder Cup championship will be the true pinnacle of the team’s success.
“Growing up for me, long before I was going to become a pro hockey player or anything like that, I always knew what the Calder Cup was,” Keefe said to reporters during the team’s final regular season series at Ricoh Coliseum versus Rochester.
