The Leafs were able to salvage a point in Wednesday’s shootout loss to the visiting Winnipeg Jets after Auston Matthews scored the tying goal with less than 14 seconds remaining in regulation
The Good:
- Matthews was easily the best player on the ice. His first period goal, on a wrist shot from just below the dot, came just 56 seconds after the Jets opened the scoring. It was Matthews’s 30th goal of the season. In reaching the benchmark, Matthews became the first American player in NHL history to start his career with four consecutive 30-goal campaigns.
