Phil Kessel scored 181 goals over parts of five seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs and is one of the best players to ever wear the blue and the white.
Though his time in Toronto was marked by copious managerial failures, he himself performed amazing for pretty much his entire tenure. It is not Phil Kessel’s fault that the package to acquire him ended up being Tyler Seguin and Dougie Hamilton – two of the best players in today’s NHL.
It is also not his fault that the team failed to identify the shifting style of the game and chose to load up on enforcers and bad players while letting go of statistically impressive players like Grabovski and MacArthur.
