The Toronto Maple Leafs have already shown a penchant for aggressively dealing away impact pieces, having already traded Cody Franson, Mike Santorelli, Daniel Winnik and David Clarkson.
With Monday's NHL trade deadline just two days away, we're hearing that two other names -- center Tyler Bozak and defenseman (and captain) Dion Phaneuf -- could also find themselves on their way out of Canada's largest city in the next 48 hours.
Recent trade rumors have positioned the New York Rangers as top suitors for Bozak, while the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings have reportedly kicked the tires on Phaneuf for weeks now.
Leafs general manager Dave Nonis won't refute the trade rumblings surrounding Bozak and Phaneuf. However, he's not willing to strike a deal or two just to say he did.
“We need to make some changes, that’s apparent,” Nonis said, via Mark Easson of My NHL Trade Rumors. “We have some good players that haven’t played to their capabilities this season, that haven’t had the years we need them to have.
“It doesn’t mean we’re going to fire-sale people out. We’re not going to make moves to clean the roster out. We need to get value.”
