Maple Leafs news is taking on an optimistic bent, with the Leafs currently sitting just one point out of an Eastern Conference Wild Card spot with four to play.
CEO Tim Leiweke of Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment looks to be sharing in said optimism.
Per the National Post, the Maple Leafs chief executive spoke with television personality George Stroumboulopoulos on both the challenges of running the storied franchise, and his plan for carrying the Maple Leafs back to past glories.
In reference to the very pressure-packed nature of running a hockey club in Toronto, Leiweke stated that his first impressions of the city were “intense and cold, and not in that order.”
However, rather than seeing this as a problem, it looks as if Tim Leiweke and the rest of Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment are drawing from it as fuel for the future --
"The Leafs had a pretty good year last year, and I didn't think we had to fix them. And clearly, in the next couple weeks, they're going to determine whether or not we have a problem there. I think fans should feel very comfortable, looking at our track record in short-order, with the Raptors, and then TFC (Toronto FC of the MLS). We will fix the Leafs."
The Maple Leafs host Winnipeg on Saturday, before heading on the road for a code-critical three game road trip to finish the NHL regular season -- starting in Tampa Bay on Tuesday.
