Brett Lawrie has hit at every level he’s played in, including last season with the Toronto Blue Jays where he posted a .293 average with 9 homers, 25 RBI and 7 stolen bases in just 43 games. Had he played a full season at that pace, he would have batted .293 with 36 homeruns, 100 RBI and 28 stolen bases.
The Blue Jays acquired Lawrie December 6th, 2010 from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for Shaun Marcum. When the trade was made, many fans did not approve of the team trading away their number one starter – a proven commodity in their minds for a prospect that may or may not ever turn out. However, it’s safe to say that most fans fell in love with the Langley, BC native after he was called up.
What can we expect from Lawrie this season?
It would be unfair to expect 36 HR from Lawrie, however he is definitely legit, and if slotted behind Jose Bautista and Adam Lind, he could reasonably produce 80+ rbis.
Prediction for 2012:
.287 avg, 24 hr, 86 rbi, 27 sb
