Toronto FC is taking inspiration from the most iconic of lines from film star Michael Caine, with a fiercely ambitious MLS franchise choosing to blow the doors off with their recruitment business in 2022. A decision has been taken to both speculate and accumulate, with some eye-catching deals suggesting a reversal in fortune could soon be on the cards at BMO Field.
A stumble out of the blocks was made at the start of a new season by Bob Bradley’s team, but the former USMNT coach has time on his side to put things right, preparing to make a potentially decisive impact.
Toronto FC cannot be accused of resting on their laurels, with every effort being made to force their way into contention for major honors. Anybody fancying them to deliver on undoubted potential can pick them up at a pretty enticing price as a rapid ascent up the Eastern Conference standings is sought.

If momentum is to be established by Toronto FC, then it will not take long for their claims to MLS Cup glory to be recognized in Ontario and across North America. Getting a couple of notable signings to hit the ground running will aid that quest considerably.
Bright future
A deal for Italy international forward Lorenzo Insigne was announced on January 8, but patience has been the order of the day when it comes to a transfer that was always going to be seven months in the making. With a proven operator under contract at Napoli in Serie A, he was unable to slot immediately into the fold.
A path was finally cleared for him in mid-July, only for an unfortunate knock to delay his debut. The expectation is, however, that plenty of value will be found in a four-year contract.
The same can be said for another agreement that has piqued interest around the world, with another European Championship winner packing his bags for Toronto from the Italian top flight. The man in question is former Juventus winger Federico Bernardeschi.

Getting him to put pen to paper in MLS represents quite a coup for Toronto FC, as there was enough speculation to suggest that he had the pick of Europe’s leading divisions when hitting free agency at the end of June.
While his arrival has generated plenty of fanfare in Canada, it also brings with it a healthy dose of expectation. With some serious dice being rolled, as big money is put on the table, some winning hands are now demanded as Bradley & Co seek to deliver on their remit.
An Italian Job has been taken on, but will Toronto FC find themselves teetering on the edge of disaster or reveling in the rewards delivered by a perfectly executed plan?
