Toronto FC's Giovinco snaps goal drought in dramatic fashion

Sebastian Giovinco put his goal drought behind him Saturday night, earning a hat trick in such style you’d be forgiven for forgetting his recent struggles.

The striker’s first-half brace, bookending a tap-in from midfielder Marky Delgado, and some acrobatics in stoppage time earned the Reds a 4-1 victory over D.C. United in the first of game of a four-match home stand.

Giovinco had not scored in league play since a brace against the Vancouver Whitecaps on May 14. Saturday’s goals were also the first two the Italian has netted off free kicks this season.

It was the Reds’ game to lose from the get-go, hosting a team two points behind it in the Eastern Conference.
