Toronto FC is not certain who will anchor its back line in Wednesday’s Eastern Conference semifinal in New York.
Centre back Omar Gonzalez has been a mainstay next to Chris Mavinga since the Reds acquired the American defender in early July, but he was a late scratch for TFC’s playoff opener last Saturday because of a hamstring injury and he will likely be a last-minute decision before the club’s match against New York City FC. The 31-year-old Gonzalez participated in fitness work Monday and Toronto coach Greg Vanney said he “did everything we needed him to do” on Tuesday.
