The highly anticipated signing of Lorenzo Insigne by Toronto FC became official on Saturday morning, ending weeks of speculation about the Italian star’s future and beginning a new chapter in the club’s history.
Insigne, 30, signed a precontract with the Reds to join the club on a four-year deal starting July 1, after the expiration of his existing contract with his hometown club of Napoli in Serie A, a club he has represented at various levels since the age of 15. He will be added to the roster as a designated player pending receipt of his international transfer certificate.
