With the arrival of Ager Aketxe, nearly all the off-season chips have fallen into place for Toronto FC.
The Spanish midfielder was unveiled as a Red on Friday, the third player to be acquired by the club with targeted allocation money this year, following the arrivals of defenders Gregory van der Wiel and Auro earlier this month.
Aketxe was released from his contract with La Liga side Athletic Bilbao last week, ending a relationship that began when the midfielder joined the club’s youth academy at 10 years old.
There were inquiries from multiple teams, Aketxe told media through a translator, but Toronto FC showed particularly keen interest.
