Toronto FC will play in the CONCACAF Champions League final for the first time in club history after a 1-1 semifinal draw in Mexico on Tuesday night cemented a 4-2 victory on aggregate over two legs against Club America.
A 12th-minute goal for midfielder Jonathan Osorio, set up to shoot at a wide open net by fellow Canadian Tosaint Ricketts, opened the scoring for the Major League Soccer champions and quickly negated the away goal from Club America in TFC’s opening 3-1 win.
The score would stay that way until the 92nd minute, when midfielder Andres Uribe’s penalty prevented TFC from winning both matches in a single round for the first time in this tournament.
