When Toronto FC announced a three-year contract extension with designated player Jozy Altidore in February 2019, locking up the star striker through 2022, club president Bill Manning hoped he would stay even longer.
“Jozy expressed his desire to be here and the feeling was mutual,” the Reds boss said at the time. “Our fans here love him, and I hope he’ll wear at TFC jersey for the rest of his career.”
Now, with one season left on that deal which includes a no-trade clause, the idea of Altidore closing out his career in a Reds uniform is over.
