There will be a new name on Toronto FC’s roster as it enters the final two months of the regular season: Armando Cooper.
The Reds announced Thursday that the club signed the attacking midfielder on loan, from Club Deportivo Arabe Unido in Panama’s top league.
It’s an acquisition Toronto wasn’t always sure would pan out.
Cooper was a player that the Reds watched over the course of Major League Soccer’s secondary transfer window — which lasted from July 4 to Aug. 3 — coach Greg Vanney told reporters following the announcement.
But there was a time during negotiations that the club thought it might have to move on from the potential deal.
