Former Toronto FC striker Sebastian Giovinco, the club’s all-time leading scorer, has been invited to train with his one-time team during its pre-season preparation.
There is no deal currently in place between the Reds and the 35-year-old Atomic Ant, who arrived Wednesday in Irving, Calif., where the team is currently based.
Giovinco, who has been without a contract since mutually parting way with Saudi soccer giant Al Hilal in August, told the Star in December that he wants to return to TFC.
He said breakdowns with the Reds around the time of his departure in 2019, after a four-year stay during which the club reached new heights, were “my mistake” and he refuted reports that said he was asking too much money in informal meetings with Toronto last fall.
