The list of potential Canadian venues for the 2026 World Cup has been slimmed by three with the removal of Toronto’s Rogers Centre, Montreal’s Stade Saputo and Calgary’s McMahon Stadium.
Toronto and Montreal are still represented on the list, however, by BMO Field and the Olympic Stadium respectively.
Neither the Rogers Centre nor Stade Saputo seemed a likely final choice for the proposed USA-Mexico-Canada bid, with the former a baseball stadium by design and the latter well short of the 40,000 capacity required for World Cup group-stage matches.
And Calgary is now out of the running entirely.
