FOXBOROUGH, MASS.—As Victor Vazquez prepared to take a free kick in Toronto FC’s 2-1 loss to the New England Revolution on Saturday, the midfielder placed the ball on Gillette Stadium’s 20-yard line.
With New England Patriots set to take on the Houston Texans at the stadium a day later, the yellow lines that marked the soccer pitch were in effect painted directly on top of the gridiron lines.
Neither the look, a flashbacks to the early days of Major League Soccer but something that is hardly seen as the league grows, nor the surface appealed to Reds captain Michael Bradley.
