On Thursday, Toronto FC and captain Michael Bradley agreed to a new Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) contract, but in order to free up that money, TFC declined the purchase option on Benezet's loan, which is set to expire at the end of the year.
When asked about a potential Benezet return, Toronto FC president Bill Manning said “It would be extremely difficult, unless [Benezet] was willing to come [back] under a salary cap [deal]. Not TAM.”
In other words, unless the French attacker was willing to take about half of the $600,000 USD that he made last season, it appears that his time with the Reds may be over.
