Giovinco injured in Toronto FC’s loss to New York Red Bulls

HARRISON, N.J.—Sebastian Giovinco left Toronto FC’s game on Saturday against the New York Red Bulls with an adductor injury.

The Italian forward left the match in the 22nd minute and was replaced by Ashtone Morgan.

Toronto head coach Greg Vanney downplayed the injury after the game, which the Reds lost 3-0, saying it didn’t look significant.

Will Johnson took the captain’s armband in Giovinco’s place.

Bradley Wright-Phillips scored three first-half goals to lead the Red Bulls to victory.

TFC is next in action at home to Montreal on Wednesday.

Giovinco, who was Major League Soccer’s most valuable player last season, had one shot prior to exiting the game and one foul.
