Disbelief was the prevailing emotion among Italian-Canadian Toronto FC fans as link after link between the Reds and playmaker Lorenzo Insigne, the 30-year-old reigning European champion with Italy’s national team and a Serie A stalwart with his hometown club, Napoli, popped up in soccer news in recent weeks, both at home and abroad.
It turned to excitement this week when reports out of Italy suggested an agreement had been struck between TFC and the Italian forward.
