An alleged brawl at halftime of Toronto FC’s win over Club America on Tuesday is being reviewed by the tournament’s governing body, but not Toronto police.
The Reds and the Liga MX side were involved in a scuffle in the tunnel leading from the field to their respective locker rooms during the break in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League semifinal. Club America manager Miguel Herrera claimed Toronto police officers stationed in the area where the melee broke out assaulted three of his players, including goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin and defender Bruno Valdez.
Toronto coach Greg Vanney disagreed, saying the kerfuffle began with one of the visiting assistant coaches berating Reds striker Sebastian Giovinco over a first-half penalty call.
