It looks like Canada will be fielding a strong roster for Octavio Zambrano’s first major tournament as head coach of the national team. Canada Soccer announced its 40 man provisional roster for the 2017 Gold Cup today, including a few surprise names.
Not long after it was revealed that he had passed his Canadian citizenship test, 16-year-old Vancouver Whitecaps wunderkind Alphonso Davies is on the list. He has also been called into camp for Canada’s upcoming friendly against Curacao. It is presumed Davies’ citizenship status is the reason the provisional roster took so long to release, as it was originally expected June 1.
