Some discerning eyes have picked out the Canadian Premier League’s recent actions in the Canadian Trademark Database. It looks like six new possible club names have been registered by CPL Soccer Holdings, joining the previously-registered trademarks for “BCFC,” Hamilton Steelers, and Hamilton United.
The six new trademarks are: Calgary FC, HWFC, York 9 FC, Cavalry FC, Port City FC, and Founders FC.
The Calgary one is obvious, although there’s certainly still a possibility that they use some of the Foothills branding as well for that club. HWFC probably refers to the Halifax Wanderers.
I’d say York 9 is pretty self-explanatory as well; that’ll likely be our GTA team, with the “9” referring to the nine area municipalities that make up York Region (Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, King, Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, Whitechurch-Stouffvile).
